your life purpose

The two most important days in your life are, the day you are born and the day you find out ‘why’. – Mark Twain

Why are we here on Earth? What are we meant to do while we are here incarnated in these physical bodies?

It's certainly not to waste our lives away, assuming that life is meaningless, seeing everyone as separate from us, competing to get to the top, becoming slaves to our environment, escaping from pain, feeling unhappy, stressed, anxious, working endlessly but never reaching fulfillment, obsessed with materialism, doing what we're told, feeling powerless, waiting to die. However, this is the conditioned paradigm that most people live by. This is what we've been told is normal. Thankfully, more and more people are waking up to the fact that life isn't some meaningless joke that we're here to suffer through, but rather that there is a purpose to all of this.

Purpose can be explained in many ways, but simply put, your life purpose is what makes you happy! It is what you love to do, what excites you and makes you tick; the essence of who you really are! It is your compass which provides direction and meaning in your life.

We are all souls having a human experience. Your soul is the spark of Divinity inside of you that is just waiting to shine it's light. Your soul brings with it a higher purpose. Your soul’s purpose is your divine calling, your energetic frequency, the big reason why you are here. It is the truest expression of who you are. Your purpose is your unique frequency in this universe. It reverberates in your actions, conversations, and everything you do. It isn’t just about what you do; it’s also about how you do it, why you do it, and that, my wise soul, is your Dharma. When you find it, you’ll know it. You’ve always known it. It’s just a matter of jogging your soul memory and bringing forth the unique gifts you were sent on this earth to deliver. Everybody has a purpose in life, a calling that reveals itself as we live out our life’s journey.

Is purpose in life correlated and/or linked to our job?
For most people, purpose is connected to their employment. Too many of us seek a profession that can serve as our purpose in life.

Whether you are an architect, a nurse, a CEO, a home keeper, a teacher, a musician, a chef, a tailor, or a bus driver – if every morning you are excited to start a meaningful and mainly a satisfying workday, then most likely your career is closely interwoven with your life purpose i.e., you have discovered your vocation, you have found and you live your 'why'. You are blessed!

However, in reality, purpose and occupation may not necessarily be the same thing. Research has shown that only a very small percentage of people find actual purpose in the work they do.

For most people, work is simply a job, a source of income. For some other people, purpose resonates with family and friends, while others seek meaning in their life through serving a higher spiritual cause.

It is also important to understand that your purpose is not your education and your degrees, your experiences and for sure not your professional titles. These are merely ‘means,’ and milestones along your life journey, that might or might not get you to your life purpose.

So how do you discover your life purpose?
We all have gifts and talents which for the most part have not been discovered and are hidden away.

First, take an honest stock of who you really are! ‘Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom!’ so says Aristotle, emphasizing the importance of self-awareness, self-appreciation, and self-reflection.

The best and the easiest way is to take some time to contemplate, to soul search. Have an honest reflection on your life journey and your experiences thus far. Ask yourself:
- What have you learned about yourself?
- How do I spend my time?
- What am I good at?
- What do I love to do?
- Which daily activities excite me?
- When do I feel most engaged?
- What do i know and others don't.
- How can my knowledge help improve somebody else's life

When you ask questions the answers are bound to come. Make notes of it, keep an open mind, observe signs from the universe, listen to what people have to say about you and what they think you're good at.

Finding your ‘why’, discovering who you really are and living your life with purpose, will inspire you but most importantly will bring you peace and happiness. It will profoundly change your life and one way or another, you will leave your legacy on this earth. You owe it to yourself and to the people around you. Recognize your own gifts/talents and perhaps use these to bring joy in other people’s lives and . . . as cliche as it may sound, why not . . . to make the world a better place.

Why is finding purpose important?
Living your life purpose can help you get unstuck and live the life you truly desire. Aside from providing a sense of direction, focus, and self-worth, finding your life’s purpose comes with a range of benefits, including:
- Better physical health and well-being
- Greater success and happiness
- Stronger personal relationships
- Higher income

Recent research shows a strong sense of purpose leads to positive social well-being and lower levels of loneliness. A purposeful life can also reduce impulsive behaviors and lead to a longer life.
